My brother has been in hospital for 3 weeks yesterday. The first week was tuff, the pain medication sent him off the loop, I forgot how nasty he can be. Voices telling him food is poisioned, unpleasant to our mother.
Today he was moved to Calvary Hospital for 2-3 weeks rehabilition if they are lucky then he will be gong to a nursing home due to the fractures as more can happen otherwise; if not lucky he will not be leaving Calvary Hospital.
The waiting game for him to make a decision which path he wants to go is unpleasant and tiring. I believe the doctors feel there is still hope if he can be built up physically again. We know he is physically exhausted and wants it over but something is keeping him here and will not release him and to live in the current existance he is facing would not be quality of life.
Since he has been in hospital he has been surviving on liquid suppliments.
The medication has played a big role in his lack of eating this past three weeks.
Also he wants to come home and we can’t provide the specialist care 24/7 for him at home as there is no room for the equipment or people needed for his care which involves the moving of him as well – he says he will pay for a carer which we already have been doing for him but he doesn’t understand that it is specialist care now required and he can’t connect with that.
Our mother would be the daily carer and it is not fair on her at her age of 84 yrs and with our father’s health she would not cope physically. Nor does she want strangers into her home at the age she is.
