Australia’s NewStart Allowance
There is much in today’s Sunday papers regarding the increase of this allowance.
For one it is below the CPI, not that businesses take that in to consideration the CPI anymore when you look at the cost of groceries and especially utilities today.
The newstart allowance is not acceptable at the level it is. When you consider the true facts of what the unemployment rate may actually be compared to what is released. For starters people who experience retrenchment and have to live off that money whilst looking for employment, before they can receive benefits from the Australian government. When you take into consideration the length of time it takes now to find employment in your chosen field – the demand can be high.
We then have the people who just give up, and let themselves slip off the radar. But then that is always the case you are treated as a number and not a real person and the majority of Centrelink personnel come across as lacking in personality. To find a rare Centrelink personnel is a jewel.
The new start allowance is dreadful when you have debts to pay, and you end up in a deeper hole than when were made redundant. This so called allowance is lucky it pays for a roof over your head even if you are lucky to get rental assistance, then you have to feed yourself, pay medical expenses that are outside the government medicare assistance, keep yourself presentable for job interviews, which includes hair, clothing, footwear whether you are a man or women.
And the government wonder why waiting lists are so blown out. Your voters just cannot afford to pay for treatments out of their own pockets. Especially when their health insurance is so lacking and so out of balance in the way they make payouts. For example, physio you are lucky your private health insurance covers you for more that 5 visits a year – that is alright for a hospital visit which may often only hopefully be a one off visit, but not the areas you wish to be covered for dental, physio to name a couple.
The ability to gain a job does not factor into a two week period it ranges from 3 months to 18 months, if you are lucky. There is a new type of unemployment happening today not only traditional blue collar workers but the equation is now increasing with middle management white collar workers.
To the Australian Governing Party the newstart allowance is degrading to a persons dignatory and whilst we are on it the topic Centrelink job assistance people have limited knowledge of how to effectively assist white collar workers.
From personal experience Centrelink job assistance people do not assist white collar workers in any way, white collar workers have experience with resumes and the likes, the ability for them to provide effective training courses is null, and if you supply them with a list of courses you think may help extend your skills that you already have, they do not come back to you. All you do is front up as a mandatory requirement, have a chat, supply the list of jobs you have applied for and ziltch. Centrelink needs to connect with employment agencies that are more effective in helping this area of the workforce.
White collar workers are left floundering by Australia’s Governing Party when they are faced with long-term unemployment. The Australian Government whether it be federal, state or even local, they are not being effective in creating job wealth for people, they are more concerned with giving handouts to people in cash for votes than ensuring it is done through their tax returns in a simplied manner.
To conclude, the one group of people who miss out entirely are single people without children and no partners at no time has this governing party supported them with any form of assistance let lone even recognise them. It seems to be all about families, families, families.
