Lizzardsview received the news that on the 9 July 2013 Mary Ellen Hopkins passed away after a stroke a week earlier. I had met Mary Ellen Hopkins only a couple of times in lectures held via Oatley Cottage.
Mary Ellen Hopkins was a vibrant women who turned the quilt world around with her way of quilting and cutting. Mary Ellen Hopkins allowed us to use our own Personal Private Measurement, to use a connector to make triangles easier, she never said the corners had to meet, points took holidays and our blocks would always go together.
Mary Ellen Hopkins has touched us all and for those who attended her lectures or workshops I know her legacy as a great woman whose style of quilts will live on forever in her name.
